AIR FIN COOLERS for H2
APPLICATION

KTS chosen to participate in Germany’s H2 Infrastructure Backbone Development Project

The German Government has initiated a major infrastructure program to convert existing natural gas infrastructure into fully Hydrogen industrial facilities. This includes pipeline grids, compressor stations and gas storage facilities. The goal of this project is to reduce CO2 emission by usage of green hydrogen.

In this matter, KTS in Germany has recently been awarded an order for the first compressor station supplying pure H2 Air Fin Coolers. Prior to the award, KTS was able to convince the customer to change his specified technical solutions in favor of a concept developed by the Proposal Team and the Engineering experts at KTS Germany.

The application with pure H2, based on the small molecule size, of course came with significant challenges to designing, calculating and manufacturing. The final design of the AFCs uses specifically selected stainless steel with customized forged headers as well as bent hairpin fintubes, allowing for the highest reduction possible of leakages and stress peaks.

Based on this success story, KTS is preparing the path for future H2 applications. The target is to acquire a H2 certificate, that is currently under development with local authorities. As the requirements for H2 applications are still under examination, this will be an ongoing process where KTS is deeply involved.
